Community Arts to present Black Diamond Philharmonic Canaan Meets Cannes

Fairmont State University’s Community Arts will host the newly established Black Diamond Philharmonic (BDP) for its premiere performance on Friday, April 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wallman Hall Theatre. BDP is a non-profit organization that employs local musicians to provide musical events of the highest quality, and the only professional orchestra in the greater Morgantown area.

The Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center’s Trunk of Traditional Tunes series will conclude on Sunday, April 3 at 2 p.m. with Mack Samples, where he will discuss and demonstrate traditional dance. This event is free for in-person public attendance, and will also be livestreamed on the Folklife Center’s Facebook page.

Fairmont State University College of Nursing honors students at White Coat Ceremony

Fairmont State University honored students in the College of Nursing during its traditional White Coat Ceremony on Monday, March 28.

The white coat marks a student’s transition from pre-nursing to entrance into clinical nursing practice, or for RNs who are continuing their education. During the ceremony, the white coat is placed on each student’s shoulders by nursing faculty and concludes with the recitation of the Nurses Pledge.

Fairmont State University to hold 153rd Commencement April 29 – May 1

Fairmont State will honor spring graduates during the University’s 153rd Commencement taking place Friday, April 29 – Sunday, May 1 in the Feaster Center.

The University will hold five separate ceremonies to honor graduates from each college, in addition to a special student athlete ceremony and Fairmont State Alumni Golden Jubilee Celebration for the Class of 1972. Spring Commencement ceremonies will be open to all guests and tickets will not be issued for entry.

Fairmont State University Receives NSF Grant to host a research experience for undergraduates

Fairmont State University has received $323,352 in grant funding from the National Science Foundation to provide an intensive undergraduate research experience in mathematics throughout the next three summers.

The project, titled Discrete and Continuous Analysis in Appalachia, will be led by Tom Cuchta, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Fairmont State, and is the first program of its kind at Fairmont State.
