Fairmont State University to hold Faculty Recital Concert April 14

Fairmont State University Performing and Community Arts faculty members Dr. Alyssa Schwartz, Director of Bands, and John Morrison, Director of Choirs, are presenting a joint faculty recital on Friday, April 14, from 7:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in Fairmont State's Wallman Hall Theater. The concert will include works for solo flute, solo piano, and pieces and is free to attend and open to the public.

Fairmont State University Performing and Community Arts announces the return of the Fairmont State Community Choir for the Spring 2023 season. 

Director John Morrison welcomes back the wonderful and talented singers of the Fairmont State Community Choir after their beautiful performances last Fall. New members are welcome and encouraged to join the community choir this spring. Rehearsals will take place every Tuesday from 7:00-8:30 pm in Wallman Hall, room 229.

Fairmont State University Performing and Community Arts has announced the return of the Fairmont State Community Choir. 

The Fairmont State Community Choir, directed by John Morrison, is currently seeking new members, with rehearsals to begin on Tuesday, September 13. Rehearsals will continue each Tuesday from 7 - 8:30 p.m. in Wallman Hall Room 229 from September 13 - November 8.

Fairmont State professor awarded the 2020 West Virginia Music Teachers Association Teacher of the Year Award

The West Virginia Music Teachers Association (WVMTA) has awarded Fairmont State Assistant Professor of Music, John Morrison, the 2020 WVMTA Teacher of the Year Award. The award is presented to a distinguished educator who has demonstrated innovative teaching and creative musicianship. Candidates for the nomination must be a member of WVMTA for a minimum of five years.

Fairmont State Collegiate Singers and Treble Chamber Ensemble to host virtual concert

The Fairmont State Collegiate Singers and Treble Chamber Ensemble will host a special online live streaming event on October 22 at 7:30 p.m. The choirs will perform a wide variety of music, conducted by Sam Spears, Director of Choral and Vocal Activities, and accompanied by John Morrison.  

The performance will feature music from a standard repertoire by composers including William Billings and Robert Schumann, to music theatre favorites by Rodgers and Hammerstein. 

Music on the Hill Artist Series Presents Suzanne Hatcher

Guest artist Suzanne Hatcher, soprano, will present a solo recital on Friday, October 25, as part of the Fairmont State University Music on the Hill Artist Series.  This family-friendly, free program will feature a wide variety of music, including the “Wesendonck-Lieder”—one of the rare non-operatic works of Richard Wagner—and Rachmaninoff’s famous “Vocalise.” Accompanying Hatcher on piano will be Fairmont State faculty member, John Morrison. 

FSU Choirs to Perform Concerts with Greenbrier East High School Choir

On Friday, March 31, at 7:30 p.m., choirs from Fairmont State University and Greenbrier East High School will present a choral concert at the First Presbyterian Church, Jackson St., Fairmont. The program, titled “Healing Through Harmony,” is a benefit to raise money for victims of the flooding that struck West Virginia in June 2016. Admission to the concert is free and open to the public. A goodwill offering will be taken.

The Fairmont State University Community Chorus and the Cambridge Handbell Choir of the First Presbyterian Church of Fairmont will present a traditional Service of Lessons and Carols at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, at the First Presbyterian Church, 301 Jackson St., Fairmont. The program is free and open to the public. A goodwill offering will be collected.

Student to Present Graduate Piano Recital

Fairmont State University graduate student Rayme Pullen will give her Graduate Piano Recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17, in Wallman Hall Room 229. Pullen studied piano with Professor John Morrison in School of Fine Arts Department of Music.

For her recital, Pullen will perform “Sonata in D, Kp. 478” by D. Scarlatti (1685-1757), “Papillons, Opus 2” by Schumann (1810-1856), “Ballade in G-Minor, Opus 23” by Chopin (1810-1849) and “Sonata No. 3, Opus 28” by Prokofieff (1891-1953).
