Nursing Program to Host Open House on March 25

Mar 19, 2010

The Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Program at Fairmont State University is hosting an Open House for registered nurses who are interested in further education.

The event is planned for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, March 25, in Room 303 of the Education Building.

Those who attend the Open House will have the opportunity to speak with BSN faculty advisors and to find out more about the admissions process.

"The nursing profession is unique in that there are multiple related parts that lead to RN licensure. In an Associate of Science Degree or diploma program, you learn all of the essential skills of the nursing profession that make you eligible for licensure," said Sharon Boni, Ph.D., RN, Dean of FSU's School of Nursing and Allied Health Administration.

"The BSN gives you a better rounded liberal arts education, as well as education in theory, community, research and leadership and management. The BSN also prepares nurses for graduate education."

FSU's nursing courses are 50 percent online, and many evening classes are held to accommodate working nurses. The clinical requirement of the program is offered on campus or is arranged at selected clinical agencies.

Graduates have consistently exceeded state and national passing rates on the national licensing exam for registered nurses and are in great demand by employers. About 96 percent of FSU's nursing graduates from the past three years report that they live and work in West Virginia.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing provides associate degree holders in health professions an opportunity to enhance their opportunities beyond the bedside and clinical practice area to the management and leadership arena or graduate education. Students can maintain full-time employment while pursuing a degree in the evenings as a part-time or full-time student.
