Library Hosts Events This Week and Extends Hours

Nov 26, 2012

The Ruth Ann Musick Library will host two events this week for Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College students, faculty and staff

On Tuesday, Nov. 27, members of the campus community are invited to explore eReaders and tablets in a relaxed setting from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Hupp Skylab on the Library’s top floor.

“Everybody has different needs and different interests so this is a way for everyone to get an opportunity away from a store or away from a salesperson to actually pick one up and see if they like it,” said Kelly Bradish, Emerging Technologies Librarian.

Librarians will be present at this event to answer questions, particularly about eBooks on the different devices. Information will be available about eReaders that can be borrowed from the Library.

“We’ll also be talking about the WVDELI, which is the eBook lending consortium we are part of,” Bradish said.

On Thursday Nov. 29, the Library will be hosting the fall READ photo shoot from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. FSU and Pierpont students, faculty and staff are all invited to participate in this event.

“It’s promoting literacy and the library, but it’s also fun for those involved and it’s fun for us, too. We put the photos on Facebook and our web site. Some are made into posters and put up in the Library,” Bradish said.

Those who participate in this event will also receive a stock paper copy of the photo, suitable for framing or gift giving.

Those who are interested in participating should register by contacting Kelly Bradish by e-mail at kelly.bradish@fairmontstate.edu. In the e-mail, include a preferred time, a second time choice, the approximate number of people in the photo and an organization name if applicable.

The Ruth Ann Musick Library has extended its hours of operation as finals approach. The Library is now open all night most days of the week and will run on a similar schedule for the remainder of the semester. Full hours are available on the Library web site at http://library.fairmontstate.edu.

The Library adopts these extended hours each semester to help the students of FSU and Pierpont.

“There is a need for it at this time of the year. Everyone has papers and projects. We have students with all different types of responsibilities. Some of them work all day and attend classes in the evenings, some of them have families and other responsibilities and this is the time of the semester when a lot of studying and work needs to be accomplished. By being open for longer hours, it’s a place where students can come and get their work done,” Bradish said.
