LaRue Honored with State Award

May 03, 2012

The West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics (WVCTM) recently named Fairmont State University professor of mathematics, Dennine LaRue, the 2012 College Mathematics Teacher of the Year.

The announcement was made during the WVCTM annual meeting, in Flatwoods. LaRue has been a faculty member at Fairmont for more than 25 years and has been teaching mathematics to all levels of students. She explains that her role is highly rewarding, “students get that ‘light bulb’ moment when they finally grasp a concept. They are able to see how mathematics really influences life a lot more than they think.”

Dr. Gilberti, Dean of the College of Science and Technology says awards like this help to promote the department and the university. “This is truly an honor for Ms. LaRue, the College of Science and Technology, and Fairmont State University.  It is a testament to the high quality of education students receive at our institution.  Ms. LaRue is a dedicated professional with a passion for teaching mathematics, and we are very fortunate to have her on staff.”

This is the second time in the awards 10 year history that a faculty member from Fairmont State University has won the award, with Dr. Susan Goodwin winning the award in 2008.
