"The Madwoman of Chaillot" on Wallman Hall Stage in April

Apr 06, 2016

The Theatre Program at Fairmont State University is proud to announce the cast of the final production of the academic season, “The Madwoman of Chaillot,” written by French dramatist Jean Giraudoux.

The play runs April 20, 21, 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 24, at 2 p.m. in the Wallman Hall Theatre. Tickets may be purchased by calling the School of Fine Arts box office at (304) 367-4240. The tickets are reserved seating, and prices are $10 for adults, $8 for patrons 65 and older and $6 for patrons 12 and younger and high school/non-Pierpont/non-FSU students with ID. Fairmont State and Pierpont Community & Technical College students, faculty and staff are admitted for free with a valid ID.

This timely, comedic play draws a contrast between the worlds of the “artists” and the “businessmen.” Written during the Nazi occupation of France, “The Madwoman of Chaillot” is about doing what is right. It is about battling greed and resisting conformity. The cast includes Morgan Carder as the eccentric Countess Aurelia, the “madwoman” of the title. The Countess vows to fight against developers who plan to dig up the streets of Paris to get at the oil that lies beneath. The developers include the President (played by Nathan Fox), the Prospector (Justin Allan), the Broker (Stephen Phillips) and the Baron (Kent Daniels). Countess Aurelia enlists the help of outcasts and dreamers including the Ragpicker (Kira Guier), the Street Singer (Samantha Young) and the Sergeant (William Seigler) to stop the evildoing of those who would take over the city and corrupt everything that is pure and good.

The cast also includes Pamela Chatman, Gary Hayes, Jacqueline Jelacic, Bailey Kershner, Audrey Moore, Lindsay Morgan, Juliana Spradling, Kianna Wills, Travis Wilson and Rayleen Working. The production is directed by School of Fine Arts faculty member Dr. John O’Connor.
