To celebrate the completion of the 2010-2011 academic year, Fairmont State University will be honoring scholarship recipients and outstanding students during a variety of academic awards celebrations.
The Department of Music of the Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts will present a concert of guitar music by Stephen Aron at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 7, in Room 229 of Wallman Hall. Aron will be performing a number of his own compositions, as well as works by Chopin and Mendelssohn. Admission to the concert is free and open to the public.
Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College students, alumni and members of the community interested in employment in the field of education are invited to meet with representatives at the annual Education Networking Event. Those who graduated in December 2010 or plan to graduate in May 2011 with Education or Early Childhood degrees are especially encouraged to attend.
The Fairmont State University Saxophone Quartet was accepted to perform four selections on Friday, March 25, at the state West Virginia Collegiate Music Educators Association Honors Recital during the WVMEA Conference at Marshall University in Huntington.

The Celebration of Ideas Lecture Series at Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College continues Saturday, April 2, with the performance of the play “Bus Stop.”
In this warm and affecting hit comedy, William Inge examines some of the many faces of love. The Fairmont State University Collegiate Singers and Chamber Choir, directed by Dr. Sam Spears, will present a concert at Gateway United Methodist Church, 301 Diamond St., Fairmont, at 8 p.m. Friday, March 11. Admission to the concert is free and open to the public.
The Fairmont State University Wind Ensemble will present an unusual concert, “Things That Go Bump in the Night,” conducted by Valarie Huffman and Matthew Schoonmaker,on Wednesday, March 9, at 8 p.m. in Wallman Hall Theatre on the main campus.
For the fourth year in a row, Fairmont State University students and faculty participated in the national Empty Bowls Project, which is an international grassroots, craft-based effort to end hunger.
