Fairmont State to Hold Commencement Ceremonies in the Feaster Center

Apr 16, 2021

In order to provide the most meaningful experience for graduates and ensure successful Commencement events, each of the Fairmont State University Spring Commencement Ceremonies will take place indoors at the Feaster Center on campus. The University’s plans for the ceremonies have been approved in consultation with the Marion County Health Department to assure safe environments for all graduates, faculty, staff and university guests.

“As we have done throughout the pandemic, the University is relying on guidance from health experts to make our assessments about these types of events,” said Matt Swain, Fairmont State Chief of Police and Director of Emergency Management. “Several options were explored to execute in-person ceremonies, and we have worked diligently to make certain each of the ceremonies is successful and safe.”

University Leadership and the Commencement Planning Committee have dedicated considerable time and efforts to finalize event details including floor plans and other logistics, along with safety precautions in close coordination with the University COVID-19 Task Force.

“Commencement is always special, but these students have raised the bar – they overcame unprecedented challenges and thrived throughout the pandemic,” said Mirta M. Martin, Fairmont State University president. “I couldn’t be prouder of the efforts of our faculty and staff, who have put in long hours and come together to ensure we can safely celebrate our Falcon graduates together, in-person. We look forward to honoring their achievements and commemorating their resilience as they prepare to soar as Falcon graduates.”

Each graduate participating in Spring Commencement Ceremonies will receive two guest tickets, allowing family members to attend the ceremony. Graduates who have not submitted an RSVP to attend their ceremony will not receive guest passes. No exceptions will be made to the guest policy. Graduates may pickup guest tickets in the Turley Center at the Front Counter Monday, April 19 - Friday, April 23. Graduates must present ID and will be asked to sign for the tickets.

The University will livestream the ceremonies for each college or school, allowing those unable to attend to join virtually and view in real-time. Spring Commencement Ceremonies will take place as follows:

  • Special Student Athlete Ceremony – 6 p.m.

Saturday, April 24:
