FSU Marching Band Stadium Review Concert Nov. 14

Nov 11, 2013

Named by NBCs ProFootball Talk as “the best small collegiate band in the United States,” the Fairmont State University Marching Band will present its annual Stadium Review Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in Colebank Hall.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, call (304) 367-4219. At the concert, there will be a raffle for a quilt made from the old band uniform and a throw made just for the evening’s performance. Tickets for the raffle will be sold at the door.

Under the direction of Dr. Valarie Huffman, the band will perform selections from this football season. The theme for this year’s season, “Stay Calm and Boogie Down,” is represented by dance and party music from the 1970s and ‘80s. Selections include “Boogie Down” by Al Jerreau, “Celebration” by Kool and the Gang, “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves and “Let’s Groove” by Earth, Wind and Fire.  Stand tunes also will be performed as part of the concert.

“This year’s band has been busy performing not only at FSU’s football games, but also as the exhibition band for several high school competitions and spectaculars. The band has been seen by more than 10,000 people since September and has enjoyed thrilling receptions by audience members,” Huffman said.

The band has performed at the Fairmont Band Spectacular, the Preston County Music in the Mountains competition and the Morgantown Band Spectacular at Milan Puskar Stadium. In December, the band will travel to Mexico to perform in Cozumel.
