Turning Point Marimba Duo to Perform Oct. 21

Oct 15, 2013

The Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts welcomes the duo Turning Point, featuring marimbists Laurel Black and Matt Sharrock on Monday, Oct. 21.

The artists will offer a performance at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, Wallman Hall Room 229. Immediately following the performance, the duo will be holding a master class for students studying marimba. Admission is free and open to the public.

Both artists studied at The Boston Conservatory with world-renowned marimbist Nancy Zeltsman, and performed as a duo at the Zeltsman Marimba Festival in 2011. The festival is one of the largest percussion festivals in the world. In 2011, they were featured as “Showcase Artists,” a title given to “up and coming” marimba soloists.

The duo will debut their new album “New Leaf” and will perform “3 Preludes” by George Gershwin, “Zeltzimba” by Curtis Bahn, “Three Transformations” by Andrew Thomas, “See ya Thursday” by Steve Mackey and “Excursions, Op. 20” by Samuel Barber.
