Homecoming 2018 - October 15-21

Saturday, September 29, 2018

Fairmont State University will celebrate Homecoming 2018 on October 15-21. This year’s theme is
“Welcome Home.”

“This event is all about welcoming home our alumni,” said President Mirta Martin. “It is our honor to serve as the welcoming committee to generations of alumni who choose Homecoming as the time of year they return to campus. For some, they return every year, and for others, it may be four or more decades since they have been here.”

For those familiar with the traditional Fairmont State Homecoming schedule, several changes to our key mark events will be noticed.

“One of our major changes is the move of our Homecoming Parade from Thursday evening to Saturday morning. We made this change to allow more of our alumni and community, including our alumni award winners, the opportunity to participate.”

This year’s parade will be held on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. It will begin at the East West Football Stadium, proceed to Fairmont Ave, where it will make a left on 8th St. and proceed to Fairmont Sr. High School. Participants will then march to Locust Ave, where they will make a left and march past the University. The route will end at the Squibb Wilson Blvd. entrance to campus.

“We are excited to bring our Homecoming celebration to the community surrounding the University and finishing the parade on our campus.”

Another change is the combination of the Emeritus Luncheon and the Alumni Award Winner Brunch.

“In addition to inducting the class of 1968 into the Emeritus Club, twelve alumni will be honored during our Friday luncheon.”

This year’s alumni award winners are:

Outstanding Young Alumni

  • Craig Baker
  • Alexis Hicks
  • Dr. Robert Kristovich
  • Brooklyn Sapp

Alumni of Achievement

  • Dr. Roxanne Robinson

  • Nancy Lawler

  • Miller L. Hall

Outstanding Alumni

  • Carol Amos
  • Tina Mascaro
  • Rev. D.D. Meighen

Lifetime Achievement Award

  • Jack Clayton

While some changes have been made, many keynote events remain including the Thursday night bonfire, Friday night Hall of Fame dinner, and tailgating leading into the 1 p.m. game against Glenville State.
