   Need help with your golf game?  Join FSU golf coach and Fairmont Field Club golf professional, Doug Comer, as he guides you through the art of perfecting your swing.  After mentoring under the legendary Jim Prueter, Doug has been teaching golf for over 10 years, including leading the FSU men’s golf team to the 2009 NCAA DII Championships.All Clinics will meet at the Fairmont Field Club driving range.  Proceeds benefit FSU Golf programs.Register early – class sizes are limited!!!

Ballroom Dancing I – Traditional

  Ballroom dancing is culture, art, music, emotion, fitness, and sport.  It is an activity which promotes social graces, self-confidence, and mutual respect and cooperation between partners.  It is also great fun!  This course will enable the student to participate in social occasions requiring ballroom dancing skills, such as weddings, formal, social and business parties, as well as informal occasions requiring the display of social graces.  Featured dances include the Tango, Waltz and Foxtrot. Rock On! - Climbing 101

  Have you always wanted to give rock climbing a try but never knew how or where to go about it.  This half-day class provides the average person with an opportunity to climb.  Get expert instruction while learning basic climbing techniques and belaying in an outdoor setting.  All materials and safety gear provided.  Must be 14 years or older.

Top Rope Systems

 

Have you taken our introductory climbing class and would like to get out on your own?  This class will give you the opportunity.  Previous climbing experience preferred.  This is not a class to teach you to climb.  This is a class to teach to you to rig for top rope climbing.  You will gain the technical knowledge and practical experience needed to build and evaluate top rope systems.  The first part of this course will be knot tying and gear discussion.  The second part will be spent building and evaluating anchors.  Must be 18 years or older.

Ballroom Dancing II – Latin

   This course is designed to develop an appreciation of ballroom dancing as a popular recreational activity for relaxation and physical exercise. Disc (Frisbee) Golf Throw Clinics

  With new courses going up throughout the area, Disc Golf is rapidly gaining in popularity.  It’s a fun and challenging outdoor activity that can be played by anyone who can throw a disc.  With no green fees and minimal equipment, this game is for everyone.  Discs available for loan or sale.  Proceeds benefit the Seth Burton Memorial Disc Golf Course.

Backcountry WV - Hiking Coopers Rock

 

Have you always wanted to go hiking, but aren’t quite sure how to go about it.  This is where it all starts. This moderate to strenuous day trip will take participants to the Coopers Rock State Forest. In addition to the hiking outing, we will cover such topics as Leave No Trace, clothing and layering, conditioning, packing and boot fitting to teach you how to prepare.  Must be 14 years or older.

Wilderness WV – Backpacking 101

   In-depth instruction in safe and environmentally friendly backpacking practices for novice backpackers. This class is designed for people with no backpacking experience and those seeking to update rusty skills after several years away from the sport. Instruction covers equipment selection and use, information and techniques to enhance safety and comfort, and Leave No Trace methods to protect our fragile backcountry environment.  Must be 18 years or older.

Winter Camping 101

  Get out in the quiet splendor of a winter forest.  This clinic will cover winter gear selection from tents and clothing to stoves and sleeping bags.  Learn the basics of winter safety.  Travel tips for hiking, skiing and/or snowshoeing and how to make camp in the snow and the cold of winter.
