Spring (January) Orientation – For Students Enrolling in the Spring semester (January 2009)
Spring Orientation is a comprehensive, half-day program designed for incoming freshmen, transfer, and readmitted students. The Orientation program is relevant to all student types and is highly informative. During Orientation, students and parents learn about the institution’s important calendars, offices, policies, and procedures. Information about Financial Aid and all other issues important to both on and off campus students is provided.

Each newly admitted student receives an invitation to Orientation by mail in November/December, which offers instruction to RSVP for the program.  Any student who wishes to RSVP for the program or who has further questions should contact the Office of Admissions (see below).

Students admitted for the Spring semester are encouraged to 1) complete any necessary placement tests and/or 2) schedule their classes in advance of the January Orientation program.  The Spring Orientation invitation letter will provide each student with instructions on how to find and set up and appointment with their Academic Advisor. Freshmen are permitted to begin scheduling classes on November 14, 2008.  The invitation letter will also provide details about placement tests.  For more information on the COMPASS placement test and to determine whether you will need to test, please see the COMPASS Placement Test link on this page (right).

Summer Orientation – For Students Enrolling in the Fall semester (August 2009)
Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College host comprehensive part-day Orientation programs each summer for incoming freshmen, transfer and readmitted students.  During Orientation, incoming students consult with an academic advisor, schedule and register for classes, activate the student email account, secure a photo ID card, parking pass and more.  A Parent/Guest Orientation program is offered concurrently during each of these programs.  For more parent/guest information, please see the Parent/Guest Orientation link on this page (right).

Each newly admitted student will automatically receive an Orientation reservation form by mail, which will offer instructions to RSVP for the program.  Orientation programs occur prior to each academic semester. For the convenience of those students enrolling in the fall semester, Orientation is offered at various times throughout the summer months. Please monitor this website and check your postal mail for updated information.
