Candidates who wish to qualify for teaching in an open or self-contained classroom, grades K-6, shall complete the General Studies Requirements, the Elementary Education Program and Professional Studies courses as outlined in the course of study. Field experiences and student teaching are required in an approved K-6 classroom.
Employment of kindergarten and elementary school teachers is expected to grow by 17 percent from 2010 to 2020, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Growth is expected because of both declines in student–teacher ratios and increases in enrollment in public schools. However, employment growth will vary by region.
