Webster County High School and the Fairmont State University School of Education, Health and Human Performance have launched a groundbreaking partnership to recruit, educate and retain the next generation of classroom professionals. WCHS and FSU signed a partnership agreement to offer dual credit classes, comprehensive professional development and an articulation agreement for students in the Careers in Education program.
Thanks to collaboration by Fairmont State University, the City of Fairmont and community volunteers, the Fairmont Community Garden fuels neighborhood revitalization, hands-on learning for students, healthy nutrition and the campus student food bank. For these efforts in promoting a sustainable community, the project has been named as a national winner in the Ford College Community Challenge, the only winner in West Virginia.
A group of Fairmont State University faculty members participated in professional development during the summer to support assessment of learning and building an institutional assessment system and to become assessment ambassadors for their academic departments.
First-generation students began their college experience in the great outdoors last month as part of the Discover Fairmont State program.
Eight students toured the New River Gorge with two faculty members from Fairmont State University and two current students to gain a support system and also learn what to expect from their first year at FSU.
A total of 1,044 students have been named to the Dean’s List at Fairmont State University after completing the spring 2014 semester.
Dr. Christina Lavorata, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, has released the Dean’s List and the President’s List to recognize high-achieving students for their academic distinction. Full-time students who earned a 3.4 or better grade point average for the fall 2013 semester are named to the Dean’s List. Full-time students achieving a perfect 4.0 grade point average are named to the President’s List.
In addition to graduating from Fairmont State University in May, two new alumnae also earned their first salute.
Teachers interested in advancing their careers by earning a master’s degree or advanced certification and those with a bachelor’s degree who are interested in becoming teachers can find helpful information at two Open House events hosted by the Fairmont State University School of Education, Health and Human Performance in May.

Students in the Rock Climbing class practice basic skills on campus under the instruction of Jan Kiger, the Program Coordinator for the Fairmont State University Outdoor Recreation Leadership minor.
Approximately 20 students are enrolled in two rock climbing classes for the Spring 2014 semester.
