Auditions Planned for Town & Gown Theatre Production of "The Boy Friend"

The Fairmont State University Department of Theatre and Communication and Town and Gown Theatre are hosting auditions for the musical comedy, “The Boy Friend,” on Sept. 1 and 3.

Performance dates will be Oct. 16, 17, 22, 23 and 24 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. in Wallman Hall Theatre. Auditions will take place from 6-9 p.m. Sept. 1 and 3 in Wallman Hall Theatre. The production will be directed by Susan Cato-Chapman. Musical director is Joshua Stubbs.

$107,000 Grant Awarded to FSU PDS Partnership

The West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts has awarded a $107,000 grant to the Fairmont State Foundation, Inc., on behalf of Fairmont State University’s Professional Development School Partnership.

“This state funding makes it possible for Fairmont State and our 40 partner public schools to work uniformly to provide ongoing professional development for those students training to become teachers and for practicing educators,” said Barbara Owens, Director of Clinical Experiences and the PDS Partnership for the FSU School of Education, Health and Human Performance.

Governor's Honors Academy Opening Ceremony Set for June 28

About 200 high school juniors will participate in the 2015 Governor’s Honors Academy at Fairmont State University from June 29 through July 19. An Opening Ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 28, in Gym 1 of the Falcon Center on the main campus.   

The three-week residential program is administered by the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts, which also assists with in-kind support. Dr. J. Robert Baker, Director of the Honors Program at FSU, will serve as dean. The theme of the 2015 GHA is “The Sustainable Life.”

Benedum Foundation Awards FSU Grant to Launch STEM Initiative

Thanks to a grant from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation, the Fairmont State University School of Education, Health and Human Performance is partnering with TEKids to launch a new program designed to give West Virginia children 21st century Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) skills, plus life and career skills.

Town & Gown Players Celebrate 56 Years of Service to Region

You could call the Town & Gown Players theatre trailblazers. When Fairmont State launched its summer theatre program in the summer of 1960, it was the first of its kind in West Virginia.

Jo Ann Lough and Lawrence Wallman of the Fairmont State (then College) Department of Speech and Dramatics led the launch of the Players that began with one production that year, the hit British comedy “The Reluctant Debutante,” directed by Lough.

The Fairmont State University College of Liberal Arts honored its high achieving students during the fifth annual Academic Awards Ceremony at the end of the spring 2015 semester.

The Fairmont State University School of Business honored students for their academic achievement at the Delta Mu Delta Induction Ceremony and Scholarship and Award Presentations at the end of the spring 2015 semester.

Dr. Richard Harvey is Dean of the School of Business, and Dr. Timothy Oxley is Associate Dean. Alumnus Gary LeDonne presented remarks during the event. Teresa Dalton was named Adjunct Instructor of the Year and Leisa Muto was named Professor of the Year.
