New Student Orientation Program
Summer Orientation – For Students Enrolling in the Fall semester
Each newly admitted student will automatically receive an Orientation invitation by mail and email, which will offer instructions on how to RSVP for the program, as well as information regarding each student's testing status. It is important that students review the invitation thoroughly, as many details and 'to-do' items are outlined in the postal mail piece.
Orientation programs occur prior to each academic semester. For the convenience of those students enrolling in the fall semester, Orientation is offered at various times throughout the spring summer months. Please check your postal mail and email for updated information.
Winter Orientation – For Students Enrolling in the Spring semester
Winter Orientation is a comprehensive program designed for incoming freshmen, transfer, and readmitted students. An Evening Winter Orientation program is offered in November each year and a Daytime Winter Orientation program is offered in January (which coincides with residence hall move-in). During Orientation, students and family members learn about the institution’s important calendars, offices, policies, and procedures. Information about Financial Aid and all other issues important to both on and off campus students is provided.
Each student admitted for the spring semester receives an invitation to Orientation by mail-these invitations are sent out from October through December. This invitation offers instructions on how to RSVP for the program, as well as information regarding each student's testing status. Any student who wishes to RSVP for the program or who has further questions should contact the Office of Orientation (see below).
Students admitted for the Spring semester (January - May term) are encouraged to 1) complete any necessary placement tests and/or 2) schedule their classes in advance of Winter Orientation. The Winter Orientation invitation will provide each student with instructions on how to find and set up an appointment with his or her Academic Advisor. Freshmen are permitted to begin scheduling classes in November - please check the Academic Calendar for the specific date. The invitation will also provide details about placement tests. For more information on the COMPASS placement test and to determine whether you will need to test, please see the COMPASS Placement Test link on this page (right).
